╙──╜ ╙──╜ Desqview Operation
Setting up of Battle Grid is 95% exactly as you would any other regular ANSI
door on your BBS system under Desqview. There are however some extra
considerations when running Battle Grid under Desqview, almost all of which
are optional and only affect the sysop's side.
Under Desqview when running the BGCFG.EXE file, keep these factors in mind.
1. Graphics ON/OFF - If you turn graphics ON, you will see the EGA
Screen as the user sees it, which includes all the EGA graphics,
Animation, etc. Displaying EGA graphics within Desqview windows
is a very "Desqview Tick" intensive operation, and will slow down
the response of the game and your machine. But if you have a fast
machine and would like to see the EGA graphics, then go to Desqview
and use CHANGE A PROGRAM, and edit your BBS systems windows that
you have setup. Then hit F1 to enter the ADVANCED OPTIONS, and make
sure that you have the following options set:
VIRTUALIZE TEXT/GRAPHICS <--- YES
GRAPHICS PAGES <--- 1
SHARE EGA WHEN FOREGROUND/ZOOMED <--- YES
SHARE CPU WHEN FOREGROUND <--- YES
USES ITS OWN COLORS <--- YES
This should allow you the sysop to view all the EGA graphics
with your desqview windows, providing you have enough memory
available within the windows. To check and see how much memory
you have available. Exit back to the main operations menu, and
hit ALT-O and then MS for Memory Status, the number on the far
right column and bottom is the total amount of memory available
within your desqview windows. This should read 525k if you plan
on running Battle Grid on your system with GRAPHICS ON within
your windows.
If you choose to turn the graphics OFF (Recommended Under Desqview)
you will now recieve an ANSI local status screen, this screen
resembles the main Battle Grid playing screen, but was not designed
to allow for playing it. It will scroll the ANSI map around as
the player moves, and you can watch his mech stastics update, this
will tell you the # of attacks, # of Moves remaining, etc... So you
can tell approx. how much longer his move should take. This will
allow the sysop without reconfiguration of the game, to enter and
view the roster screen, and write an HIGH SCORE ANSI file to disk
and see how many games of Battle Grid are Active. With graphics OFF
Battle Grid needs about 370k windows on the sysop side.
2. SOUND ON/OFF - Under Desqview the playing of our 4 track digital
music is not recommended, as most devices such as the Soundblaster
take DMA channels away from Desqview to allow them to play music
and our music routines would be slowed down dramatically by playing
them in two desqview windows at the same time. Although some sysops
on exceptionally fast machines have gotten the music to play under
Desqview within two windows, but we do not recommend it.
Battle Grid has been tested under Desqview 2.4 extensively by Locatha Ind. as
well as many of our beta testers who run under this configuration, in addition
it has been tested with QEMM386 ranging from version 5.95 to 6.02. If you run
into any problems getting Battle Grid to work under desqview under your
perticular configuration, or there is something unusuall about your setup,
please give our tech support a call at VOICE - (904)387-9796
DATA - (904)241-6301
We are willing to help anyone who calls to get the game running, and in 99%
of the cases we get Battle Grid to work on your system.
